A Return to Off the Wall Friday from Creations - Quilts, Art, Whatever by Nina-Marie Sayre

Women Ironing, 1884–86. Edgar Degas

First I want to say a big thank you for all the kind words I received over the last couple of months.  This has been the first significant break I took from blogging and it was really needed.  I've learned that my creative journey has had its ups and downs over the years, and it's okay.  To quote my friend, Rhonda, just "Don't give up",  So I'm not.

I'm officially back in my studio!  It's funny to get back into your studio and think, "Okay, where was I ...

Stalled on Off the Wall Friday from Creations - Quilts, Art, Whatever by Nina-Marie Sayre

The change of seasons is tough in this part of the Great Lakes.  Days get shorter with less sunlight.  You never know if it's going to be 55 or 80 degrees out.  It's sad thinking that 4 months of snow and glum are just on the horizon.    I've learned to combat it some by getting out my Light Therapy lamp and using that while I work.  It does help, but let's face it, this Sicilian girl does better in the summer.

Which brings me to the realization that I have stalled.  My Quilt Show Block of ...

Connections on Off the Wall Friday from Creations - Quilts, Art, Whatever by Nina-Marie Sayre

If anything Covid has taught me, is the need for connection.  How many of us have taken our
social time for granted right up to the moment when it wasn't there.  To be fair, since moving to "Working From Home" 5 years ago, I've been looking for a way to connect.  Still there wasn't any kind of sense of urgency. Until...well, ya know....March, 2020.  I don't think I really understood how much our year was going to change until the President closed the airports to Europe.  Of course, the connections in our lives were ...

Setting Goals on Off the Wall Friday from Creations - Quilts, Art, Whatever by Nina-Marie Sayre

Is it just me, or did it feel like all of 2020 was spent just "waiting it out".  It kinda reminded me of my childhood in the 1970's on the Tug Hill Plateau in upstate New York. (And when I say Upstate NY, I don't mean 45 minutes north of New York City, but the truly Northern end of the state)  We would get these ridiculously huge snow storms where you were lucky to make it the mailbox more less to the grocery store.  You just spent the next few days, just waiting for the weather to break ...

Bullet Journaling for Quilters on Off the Wall Friday from Creations - Quilts, Art, Whatever by Nina-Marie Sayre

You know I just noticed that  that should read BOOKS  :)

I love journals.  I love the feel of them in my hands, the pretty pictures on them, the way they smell.  What I don't like is actually journaling.  Over the years I've  bought so many great journals with every intention to fill them up with my hopes, dreams, vents, etc etc.  But NOPE!  not a one gets past a few beginning pages.

Well except for one...and that didn't even start as a journal.  You see, I have a very busy, social church.  With that busy church ...

Saving Sadie on Off the Wall Friday from Creations - Quilts, Art, Whatever by Nina-Marie Sayre

15 years ago, I started a piece in a class taught by Cynthia Corbin.  Now we all know that not all pieces started in class merit enough to be finished.  Some are started with bad ideas  and bad design, some are just samples to learn a technique, and some are just techniques that you just don't like to do.  But not this one.  I've  written about Sadie before because more than once I said I was going to save her.

In the past, people have offered how to save her... change her initial shape since its not realistic ...
